Tucsonans can join the Rally to Restore Sanity or the March to Keep Fear Alive-- without leaving the Old Pueblo

I have been seriously jonesing to go to Washington, DC for the progressive rallies being held in October. After all I have a hybrid car and at least one person + 2 cattle dogs who would love to go on a road trip.

Problem is I also have a fulltime job and can't take 2 weeks off for the round trip.

Ever since I learned about these 3 rallies, I have been pining away to hear Ed Schultz, Jon Stewart, and/or Stephen Colbert address the teeming throngs of progressives on the mall in DC, but alas...

Now, thanks to the ingenuity and marketing savvy of the Hotel Congress, Tucson progressives can enjoy the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or the March to Keep Fear Alive without leaving town. The rallies begin at 9 a.m. on 10-30-10.

Personally, I think they should secure Governor Jan Brewer and Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall as keynote speakers for the Keep Fear Alive rally.

For Restoring Sanity...hmmm...definitely there are no Arizona Republican politicians who could address a rally with that title-- especially since Stewart called Arizona the "meth lab of democracy". Maybe Dave Ewoldt or Andrew Weil?

Here is a link to the Tucson rally and a link list of other states and cities that are having rallies. And, of course, in case you're not already distracted enough, you can follow it all on facebook and Twitter.

  1. Cool, thanks for the heads-up Pamela!

It's near Halloween so someone should wear a Colbert mask and someone else should wear a Jon Stewart mask and they should battle over microphones.

    Sanity vs. Fear ...game on.

  4. Pamela, where will the Tucson rally be held? in/near Hotel Congress?
I think Colbert invited folks to dress up in costumes which reveal whatever they fear the most. There's lot of possibilities.

  5. Thanks for the comments. Yes, the Tucson event will be at Hotel Congress. I contacted the contact person, whose e-mail is on one of the web links in the article. He said they were looking for ideas. They will be broadcasting the DC event-- probably in the big meeting room in the front. They're also having breakfast specials.

I think Connie Sanchez from Blondes for Brewer should show up. (Check out facebook for the back story on Connie and Jan Jan. The link is in the Goddard story.)

  6. Thanks, Pamela! As she said, the rally will be held at Hotel Congress from 9am - 12noon on October 30. I am the organizer of the event and have been working closely with Congress on finalizing the plans.

Congress will be serving the drink of civil discourse - micheladas, along with mimosas, bloody marys, coffee, and tacos. They will also have other food and beverage items available at their cafe.

We'll be watching the Washington DC rally on large screen TV's located throughout the hotel. Congress is opening the whole hotel for our event as we are expecting a lot of people. There is NO COST to attend, so join us!

We will have costume contests and prizes will be given for the most original. So, keep fear alive and come dressed as your 'favorite' politician!

In addition, all political candidates have been invited - from Jan Brewer to John McCain, Terry Goddard, Jesse Kelly, Gabrielle Giffords and Rodney Glassman. We'll see who shows up. We've heard one might be coming and doing a song for us... it'll be fun and entertaining.

Tucson will be streaming LIVE on the internet and we'll be capturing our event in both still photos and video recording.

Bring your signs! Bring your t-shirts! Bring your friends!
